Sentence Paragraph free essay sample

Is she not gallant, full-bosomed; does she not dance in the waves, like you at our wedding? (1). Clearly, the wife is too focused on being the center Of attention, and not wanting to share the spotlight with even a figurehead of herself that she cannot see that her husband loves her. This demonstrates that the skippers wife is overrun with feelings, compelling her to take the eyes off of the figurehead. Later in the fable, she becomes so envious of the figurehead that she steals the beautiful blue eyes from it, Now she has your blue eyes too. You had better give me the stones for a pair of earrings, she said. No, he said again, I cannot do that, and you would not ask me to if you understood. Still the wife could not stop fretting about the blue stones, and one day, when her husband was with the skippers corporation, she had a glazier of the town take them out, and put two bits of blue glass into the figure-head instead, and the skipper did not find out, but sailed off to Portugal. We will write a custom essay sample on Sentence Paragraph or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page (1).This passage illustrates that the skippers wife is so desperate for all of his attention that she goes to the extreme of stealing the gems so she can wear them as earrings. This act shows that she is so stricken with greed that she hired a glazier to install the lee glass to the figurehead and take down the pure blue gems just to have them for herself wear as earrings. One of the last main events that happened in the tale, is the point where she starts loosing her vision, Oh God, the wife then cried, that the ship was back in the harbor of Elisions. Then I should have the glass taken out, and the jewels put back. For did he not say that they were my eyes? But the ship did not come back. Instead, the skippers wife had a letter from the Consul of Portugal, who informed her that she had been wrecked, and gone to the bottom with all hands. And it was a ere strange thing the Consul wrote, that in broad daylight she had run straight into a tall rock, rising out of the sea. (1).This shows that because she took the gems off the figurehead, the skipper/figurehead could not see where he was going so he crashed into a large rock sticking straight out of the water. This is important because the rock represents her jealousy and the blue gems represent their pure love, so when she took the stones, it was almost destined for the jealousy to destroy their relationship. In conclusion, the wife of the story looses her vision, to demonstrate how jealousy blinds you from the obvious.

To Err is Human essays

To Err is Human essays There is a famous saying that says " To err is human. " This simply means that everyone has flaws, they're what make us human. Benjamin Franklin, however, believed that people could achieve moral perfection. This could be done by listing all of your immoral flaws, and trying to perfect them one by one. I tried this, and I came up with several flaws that I would like to correct. Not trying hard enough at school, being mean to my parents, making fun of people, being argumentative, and my road rage are just some The first flaw I listed is one that needs to be corrected very soon. Not trying very hard at school has been a very big problem for me lately. I think that my hectic schedules of work and extra curricular activities plays a large part in this. I always seem to do just well enough to get A's and B's. I never study for tests, and when I do my homework, I usually fly through it as fast as I can. I think that setting out more time to study and do my homework correctly would be a good start at correcting this flaw of mine. I could also try to stop making fun of people all of the time. I don't do this on purpose, it's just that I like to be the class clown and crack jokes a lot. Unfortunately, several people have pointed out that when I make these (in my mind harmless) little jokes, I often hurt people's feelings. I should stop and think before I speak , because words can One of the most dangerous flaws I appear to have is a severe case of road rage. I've always known that I've had a quick fuse as far as tempers go, but I have always felt that I have learned to keep it in check. On the road however, I become " that idiot "; You know, that guy that is always cutting people off and screaming out the window like a maniac. Many of my friends refuse to ride with me because of this. If I don't learn to calm down, my self or someone else may get seriou ...

Designing an Evaluation Reporting and Communication Assignment

Designing an Evaluation Reporting and Communication - Assignment Example People communicate to fulfill their wants both in their work and non-work related spheres of life. They desire to be heard, to be valued and to be wanted. They also wish to finish tasks and accomplish their goals. For true communication and reporting the evaluation findings, there must be a broadcast of view, feelings and thoughts from one mind to the other. 2) To whom (what audiences) did you communicate the findings to? The audiences to whom the findings are communicated should be the Potential Users. A good strategy for communicating more efficiently is to assist audience to listen more efficiently. Study shows that communicators who identify their audience are more successful in attaining their communication goals. Optimizing communication will require identifying not only who the audience is, but also what they require from the communication task. â€Å"Effective communication is about getting your message across. Specifically, it involves capturing the audience's attention, ensuring that audience understands the idea that is being conveyed, and encouraging audience to do something with that information, such as remember it, apply it, or provide feedback† (Effective Communication, 2013, 1). Effective communication, therefore, is centered on the audience. It is audience-friendly, just as effectual software is user-friendly. It shows respect to audience by keeping away from undue informality and by proofreading and crafting text thoroughly, but not speaking or writing in a special method to ‘sound scientific.’... Please explain. From the very beginning, reporting is seen as a fundamental part of evaluation, and it permits to: Communicate what one does; Examine and track development; Show impact; Document lessons learned; And be answerable and translucent to donors, benefiting communities and partners. Reporting timelines frequently present a chief constraint on the evaluation program. Particularly, the need to report findings in time in order to inform decisions of the funding for the next stage of a program often means that reports are required previous to impacts being observed. In these circumstances, it will be essential to report on interim results, and to present any evidence of the research that demonstrates how these are significant pre-requisites or predictors to the final impacts. With the primary intended users, their needs of learning, and their timelines in mind, building up a communication plan to show the process of evaluation reporting is essential. 4. Please describe the form at your organization used to communicate the evaluation findings. An evaluation represents a huge savings in time and funds, yet organizations frequently report that evaluation reports are not read, and in various cases, a report’s recommendations are unused. There are mainly four steps used to communicate the evaluation findings. Step 1: Identify Reporting and Communication Challenges: In theory, resistance and anxiety must be lessened by the participatory, â€Å"utilization focused evaluation approach and mitigated by a focus on evaluation as dialogue and learning, rather than on judgment and accountability† (Stetson, 2008, 2). Step 2: Describes the Communication Purpose: The communication purpose is to allow the

PROJECT I got an opportunity to involve in a real time project for an implementation of Salesforce architecture. Here is the snapshot of the project I was involved. By using cloud computing technologies the new way of building and running applications are being enabled where applications are accessible as utilities over Internet rather than different softwares running on server or desktop. This is a fairly common model for consumer applications like email etc., and also some business applications, such as customer relationship management. The website force.com platform as a service is the first of its kind in the world, which enables developers to create as well as deliver any type of business applications in the cloud, without software which is entirely on-demand. This technology is a breakthrough new concept. It makes businesses widely successful by making them translate their ideas into usable applications in a very short time. Developing and running these kind of business appliactions with regular software is a complex, not so fast and costly. To overcome these issues a new model, called cloud computing has been brought into existence. To stop buy and maintain hardware and software applications in the cloud are delivered as services. Salesforce.com, over the last decade helped and established this model with applications bussiness. More recently, force.com opened up and made it as open source so anyone can build and run bussiness applications on its server. Salesforce.com mastered this model with applications for business since ten years. Recently Force.com made available its proprietary technologies as open source for anyone who is building and developing bussiness applications and then running them on force platform. This platform allows you to store structured data, implement and run business logic with rules of workflow techniques, custom code and also custom codes and approval process, web browser support, integration with other applications as well. The overall scope of this project is all, but limited to To develop an application for sales forecast details. Provide the Sales forecast details of a company product. Ease of access and use. Secured analysis (confidentiality). Views about present status. PROPOSED SYSTEM In the previous CRM system, there are lot of problems, so a new technology is being used in this project called as cloud computing. To develop an application in the cloud computing environment and to deploy it and also launching it in the cloud is being proposed in this project. It is called as salesforce environment. A simple application developed and deployed in the cloud by using the tools and in the environment there itself. System Specifications User Requirements: A high-speed Internet Connection is needed as an interface between the service provider and User. User name and Password provided by the administrator is needed to the user to work with the application. Hardware Requirements: Processor: 32 bit Processor Ram: 512 Mb Hard Disk: 40 GB Internet: 512 Kbps high speed internet connection Software Requirements: OS: All OS supporting internet browsing. Environment: Force.com Environment Language: Visual Force Functional Requirements Understand the cloud environment provided by SalesForce.com Learning VISUALFORCE Developing an application using Visualforce in the SalesForce.Com Environment Deploying the application Providing the User accounts Accessing the application from user accounts and should work with the applications clearly. Other Non-functional Requirements: Performance Requirements: The performance will be fully based on the Internet connection. The user may not worry about their local system. The local system will be only used as a terminal. Safety Requirements: There are the possibilities of data loss due to the interruption of connection in Internet. So the user must ensure about his uninterrupted internet connection. Security Requirements: All the security issues will be provided by the service provider itself (SALESFORCE.COM). No users are allowed to enter and view the details without proper authentication (password protection). ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES       This role is more about learning people than coding new fields in Salesforce. One should have familiar with sales process and sales team in a company. Applying and acquiring Salesforce admin and developer skillset as required for project and assignments. Creating Salesforce customization like creating layouts and pages, learning user maintenance, database de-dumping and cleanup, creating reports and dashboards through Salesforce platform. To learn managed outsourced Salesforce implementation and development process. Apply and acquire technical analysis as required per each task, data extraction from old to new system. Salesforce Cloud Application Layout: Dashboard Reports Accounts creation Forecast 6.0 Learning experience Internship is a way to show you if that is the career is you really want. And have first hand experience on what youre going to do, if you choose the trade. This is an option to pay your dues early on. By gaining early experiences as an intern, earn myself a bit more of a leg-up to start. Internship given me exposure to new and professional situationsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦with a safety net. They had given me real opportunities for practical application of skill, but are also there to catch me if there is a problem along the way. They provide you experience with a chance to grow. You just dont stop after some years in the trade. The open-minded mentality, Ive experienced, can differentiate successful, progressive professionals from the rest. My learning focus and implementing contribution for the project: Creating Workflow Rules: To automate organizations standard processes by configuring workflow rules. Every single workflow rule consists of: A criteria which determines when the software salesforce executes the workflow rule. And also any changes that causes any record to match this can trigger the workflow rule-it even changes it to hidden fields. The actions immediately to take, when this workflow rule executes. For an example, the software Salesforce sends automatically an email that notifies the opportunity team when a new high-value opportunity is created. There are Time-dependent actions which the Salesforce software queues when the workflow rule executes. Creating Page layouts and Field level security: Field-Level Security It restricts users to edit files and also view them by any means, which includes reports and search results, list views and related lists and email and also mail merge templates, with custom links, connect offline to the API and when also synchronizing data or importing personal data. It overrides any weak restrictive field access settings in the pages layouts and also mini page layout. For an example, if the field is required and read only in the page layout in the field level security settings, it overrides the page layout and the field will be read only for the user. It overrides low restrictive field settings in layouts of search. For example, if a field is visible in the search layout but hidden for certain users via the field-level security settings, the field-level security overrides the search layout and the field will be hidden for those users. For an example, if it is any field, which is visble Page Layouts It controls the layout, organization of detail and edit pages , related lists, which fields, custom link users see on detail and edit pages only. And also control standard and custom buttons display on detail pages as well as related lists. Page layout will determine whether fields are visible, read only, or required, on detail and edit pages only. In Personal category , by going into Contact Manager, and to Group, and Professional Editions, and to control which fields users can access in related lists, and to list views, reports, and to Connect Offline, and to email and mail merge templates, and to custom links, and when synchronizing data or importing personal data. In Professional category, by going into Enterprise, and to Unlimited, Performance, and Developer Editions, and to determine some aspects of mini page layouts, including record type and profile associations, related lists, fields, and field access settings. The visible fields and related lists of the mini page layout can be further customized, but the other items inherited from the associated page layout cannot be changed on the mini page layout itself. Mini page layouts display selected fields and related lists of records in the mini view of the console. It Should not be used to secure data, if we take an example, by removing the Edit button from a page layout, it doesnt prevent users from using inline editing to modify the already established or any records. And to prevent the users from editing data, it uses any number of combination of sharing rules, field-level security, page layout field properties, validation rules, object permissions, and Visualforce pages. Sandbox Testing: Sandboxes create copies of your organization in separate environments. Use them for development, testing, and training, without compromising the data and applications in your Salesforce production organization. Sandbox Types: Developer Sandbox These sandboxes are meant for using coding and testing to be in an isolated environment. These include production organizations configuration which is also known as metadata. Developer Pro Sandbox These are the sandboxes that are intended for developing and testing in the isolated environment. These include the metadata of the organization. These have more storage than developers sandboxes. This allows for more robust test data sets and enables the environment to handle development testing more. Partial Copy Sandbox These are intended for using as testing environments. These can be used for testing tasks like user acceptance testing, training and integration testing. These include metadata configuration, your production data as defined by this sandbox templates. Full Sandbox These sandboxes are intended to be used as testing environment. Only sandboxes support performance testing and load testing and staging. These are a replica of your production organization. This includes all data including metadata. Refresh interval length makes it difficult to use full sandboxes for development. When you create a Full sandbox, you also have to decide how much field tracking history and Chatter activity to include. The default is to omit field tracking, but you can include up to 180 days of field tracking. Specify fewer days to avoid generating an excessive amount of data if you track field history for many objects in your production organization. Chatter activity data can be extensive, which can add a significant amount of time to your Full sandbox copy. Validation Rules Validation rules verify that the data a user enters in a record meets the standards you specify before the user can save the record. A validation rule can contain a formula or expression that evaluates the data in one or more fields and returns a value of True or False. Validation rules also include an error message to display to the user when the rule returns a value of True due to an invalid value. Salesforce runs validation rules before creating records submitted via Web-to-Lead and Web-to-Case, and only creates records that have valid values. Validation rules continue to run on individual records if the owner is changed. If the Mass Transfer tool is used to change the ownership of multiple records, however, validation rules wont run on those records. Workflow Rules and Approvals: Each workflow rule consists of: The criteria that determines salesforce executes the workflow rule. And any change that causes the record to match the criteria triggers the workflow rule- it even changes to hidden fields. Workflow automates some types of actions which are as: Email Alerts-Send an email to one or more recipients. It can automatically send the sales management an email alert where the sales representative qualifies a large deal. Tasks-Assign a new task to a user, role, or record owner. It can automatically assign follow-up tasks to a support representative one week after a case is updated. Field Updates-This Updates the value of a field on a record. This will automatically change the Owner field on a contract 3 days before it expires. Flow Triggers-It Triggers an auto launched flow. It triggers the wrokflow actions, which are formerly available in a pilot programme, are superseded by using the process builder. Outbound Messages- this sends a secure configurable API message to a designated listener. For an example, this will automatically initiate a reimbursement process for the approved expense report after triggering an outbound API message to the external HR system. Approvals This is an automated process where the organization can use to approve salesforce records. This process explains in detail the steps necessary for the record, for the approval and also decides who has to approve it at each step. These steps can apply to each record in the process or certain defined by the administrator. It also specifies for any action taken in the records for approval. Apex code: Apex is an object-oriented programming language which allows developers to execute flow and transaction control statements on the Force.com server. It uses syntax that almost looks like java and this also acts like database stored procedures. Apex also enables developers for adding business logics and visualforce pages. This code can be started by web service requests and also from triggers on objects. Apex is: Integrated, Easy to use, Data focused, Rigorous, Hosted, Multitenant aware, automatically upgradeable, easy to test, Versioned. Visualforce Visualforce is a framework which allows developers to build fully sophisticated, custom UIs that can be hosted nativly on the Force.com platform. The Visualforce framework includes a tag-based markup language, similar to HTML, and a set of server-side standard controllers that make basic database operations, such as queries and saves, very simple to perform. In the Visualforce markup language, every Visualforce tag relates to a coarse or fine-grained UI component, such as a section of a page, a related list, or a field. The behavior of Visualforce components can either be controlled by the same logic that is used in standard Salesforce pages, or developers can relate their own logic with a controller class written in Apex. Visualforce page definition consists of two primary elements: Visualforce markup HTML, JavaScript, or any other Web-enabled code are tagged by visual embedded within a single tag. It defines user interface markup of components are to be included on the page, and they should appear the way they should. A Visualforce controller It is a set of procedural instructions that specifically tells what happens when the user starts to interact with the specified components in associated Visualforce markup, such as when a button or a link is clicked. They also provide access to data which should be displayed and can modify component behavior. A developer can use standard controller provided by the Force.com platform, or add some custom controller logic by using a class which is written in Apex: A standard controller which consists of the same functionality and logic used for a usually standard Salesforce page. For an example, if we use some standard Accounts controller, by clicking the Save button in the Visualforce page which results in the similar behavior by clicking Save on a standard Account edit page. Triggers Apex can be started through the use of triggers. A trigger is an Apex code which executes before or after the following types of operations: insert merge upsert upload delete undelete Relationship between the internship and my field of studies A primary objective of internship is to provide students with an opportunity to test abilities and attitudes toward particular material or career possibilities for the future For me classroom learning is important, but it does not provide me with real work experience to prepare me for a career after graduation. Exposure to the workplace environment is needed to bridge the gap between learning in the classroom and application in the work environment. Since I am doing MBA with Management Information Systems as my concentration, it is a great opportunity to get real time work exposure in multi-faceted environment. Salesforce objects and relationships Salesforce Development Life Cycle Stages 7.0 CONCLUSION In review the internship that I have been to work is an excellent and rewarding experience. I was fortunate to meet and work with many people that I am sure will be able to help me with opportunities in the future. The things I have learned from this internship are time management skills and self-motivation as well as work discipline. I never thought I could work eight hours straight everyday for five days in a week. When I realized that I planned my day and work ahead so I dont waste any of my working hours. I made myself to be ready with all the doubts, when it was the correct time to get feedback. This internship motivated me through work in the office continuously for many hours. I also suggested my share of ideas and proposed some proposals that the company is looking forward into using. In conclusion, the internship is an useful experience, I have find out what my strengths and weakness are; I gaining new knowledge and skills and met many new people, I am achieving many of my learning goals, however for some the conditions did not permit to achieve them as I wanted. This Internship is giving me new insights and motivation to pursue a career as a salesforce developer. To prepare myself for my future career I can improve several things. I can work on my communication skills so that I am able to present and express myself more confidently. 8.0 APPENDICES THANK YOU ******************************************************************

Animation Essay -- essays research papers fc

Animation My personal enjoyment with animation has inspired me to write this essay, pertaining to animation. Since I was a child I have been fascinated with cartoons; from when they started out to be black and white, and until now with full colour and computer effects. To better perceive what my personal feelings about animation are, I must first discuss in full detail, a general overview of how animators bring traditional animation alive with motion. Animation seems like a smooth movement of drawn sequences of artwork, pasted together to form a single sequence of animation. This is the basis of animation, but animation is far simpler than it may seem. "The true meaning of animation is that it is a series of drawings strung together to create the illusion of smooth fluent movement."1 But the process of creating this so- called illusion, is a pain staking process during which artists must spend tremendous hours of agony to produce only seconds of animated film. Before an animator goes about creating an animation he or she must have the knowledge of several rules of animation, which animators around the world follow. The first rule of animation is that an animator must hold the understanding of the techniques used to produce single cells of animation. Second rule, and one of the most important ones is that, the animator must have great patience, so that his or her piece of artwork is not rushed, to prevent the animation from looking choppy and not as smooth as it should look. Finally what is required from an animator is "it takes commitment and effort to make the basis of animation come alive with fresh ideas."2 The following is not a rule of animation, but is often taught to animators around the world. "Animators were often taught that animation is only limited by the imagination and skills of its creators."3 Using these rules animation companies hire artists who are familiar with the rules previously discussed, but to create a feature full-length animation you need more than just these rules. Below the process of creating a feature full-length animation will be discussed in further detail. To create a traditional animation requires a team of cooperative artists and editors. It also demands a collective, c... ...r generated graphics and animation, I believe that the true admirers of the art of animation will always have a nostalgia for the techniques first used by the pioneers of animation. The Airline Industry

One of the major industries affected by the September 11 attacks had been the airline industry. Aside from security improvements were put in place as a response to the hijacking of four commercial aircraft, the industry as a whole lost a total of $42 billion from 2001 to 2005.The president of the Air Transport Association has called the current situation of the airline industry as a â€Å"perfect storm of adversity†. Two of the largest commercial carriers are currently under bankruptcy protection and two others have gone in and out of bankruptcy court in the years after 9/11.These losses could be attributed to lower passenger traffic in the wake of the terrorist attacks. The price for jet fuel has also been rising since 2001 which adds to the costs incurred by the carriers.   Jet fuel price in 2006 was up 168% from pre-2001 levels (Isidore, 2006).While the US air industry is slowing down, there has been an increase in global air passenger numbers. Most of these increases are coming from developing economies in Asia and Europe.Airlines in Asia grew at a rate of 20% annually while airlines in the middle east grew 11%. Similarly, air routes linking the US with Asia and Europe are also expected to see an increase in passengers (Shriner, 1994).Demand and Supply ElasticityWhile these changes could be directly attributed to the 2001 attacks and their repercussions, some changes in the airline industry has emanated from the industry itself. The older legacy airlines had to face numerous new entries in the form of low cost, low frills carriers. These new low cost carriers have kept the price of airlines travel low over the past few years. Passengers now had more choices and as a result, total air traffic had been increasing while average fares have not kept pace. Legacy airlines with larger operational costs could not compete with the lower fares. As a result, they had to streamline their operations by cutting excess manpower and retiring older, less fuel efficie nt aircraft in their fleets. The fleets of the legacy carriers have shrunk by 23% since 2001 and their workforce has dropped 38% during the same amount of time (Isidore, 2006).The proliferation of low cost carriers since 2001 has essentially increased the price elasticity of demand for air travel. While all airlines serve the same purpose – air travel – each airline can still be differentiated from one another.Low cost carriers may not offer the same kind of quality service found in legacy carriers. In effect, when passengers book a flight, they are choosing between goods from airline A, airline B etc. Since passengers have more choices due to the introduction of low cost carriers, their substitution between airlines has become easier. This relatively high elasticity is reflected in the increasing passenger counts at a relatively constant fare (price) schedule.Externalities of the Airline IndustryAirlines, whether legacy or low cost are now keen on improving their fuel efficiency due to the rising costs of jet fuel. Fuel costs account for 10-12% of annual airline operating costs. One way that airlines are trying to improve fuel efficiency is by retiring older aircraft with poor fuel efficiency (May, 2003).One industry that is intrinsically linked with the airline industry is the aircraft manufacturing industry. The US is a world leader in aircraft manufacturing with US aircraft manufacturers delivering 71% of new aircraft in the early years of the 1990s.Even with the boom in airline travel in the developing world, US airlines still account for roughly 25% of aircraft orders from US aircraft manufacturers like Boeing and McDonnell Douglas   (Shriner, 1994). Clearly, an increase in income by the airline industry will translate to more orders of aircraft. In that case, the airline industry exerts positive externalities on the aircraft manufacturing industry. The positive externalities do not end with increased production by US jet manufacturers. As airlines keep pushing for more fuel efficient and modern aircraft, they are providing an incentive for technology development in the aircraft sector. The increasing prices for jet fuel are even pushing this new technology development even further in the direction of making air travel more fuel efficient. An example of such technology development is in the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft which is due to enter service next year.Being made out of composite materials, it is much lighter and thus uses up 20% less fuel than similarly sized jets. An offshoot of using composite materials is a more comfortable flight experience as the cabin air does not need to be so dry (humidity causes metal to corrode) and the air pressure can be made much higher in order to make breathing easier. The use of metal precluded using higher cabin pressure as it may accelerate metal fatigue (The Economist, 2007). It is important to note that this externality does not end at Boeing. Advances that Boeing are ma king are sometimes tied to and sometimes preceded by fundamental R&D performed at universities (Shriner, 1994).We can therefore see how the airline industry promotes R&D and helps maintain the dominance of the US in aircraft technology.Even though new aircraft like the Dreamliner might reduce fuel consumption, it still does not change the fact that the airline industry has a huge externality in the form of pollution. Aviation is responsible for 2% of anthropogenic carbon dioxide production. Aircraft also release other noxious gases such as nitrogen oxides, soot and water vapor. However, the polluting effects of airlines are magnified since these gases are released directly into the upper atmosphere where they form condensation trails and cirrus clouds. The fact that air pollution from aircraft is released at a high altitude may have the effect of double the same amount of carbon dioxide released at ground level (The Economist, 2007).

The Disunited States essays

The Disunited States essays According to the article, the majority of the nation seems to be pro-devolution, or for returning power from the federal government to state governments on several issues. The author gives several reasons for devolution and against it, but overall he thinks that devolution would be a major mistake for the nation and proposes that we instead readjust the federal government to meet the needs of today. There are several reasons given for devolution of the federal government, the first is that a single state could be used as a laboratory to try new economic and social ideas, being that if it didnt work it would not affect the nation as a whole. Competition between states is another reason given for devolution. Interstate competition would produce more creative and diligent ways to carry out the task of government. And last, as responsibilities flow to state governments, public sector efficiency will increase. Next the author goes on to give his reasons against devolution. The first reason is that it would have no effect on the public dept; devolution would only cause a cut in federal spending by less than half a percent. Devolution would also worsen the odds of prosperity by making unskilled labor jobs harder to come by. The last reason the author gives against is that it will cause interstate rivalries by making states compete for citizens causing lower and lower tax rates between cities making it harder for the state governments to operate. Instead of total devolution the author suggest that the federal government be reshaped by 5 different ways in order to meet the needs of today. The first is to devolve, but only in areas where the state would do a better job. Two, restore federal primacy in anti poverty policy, being that the federal government would do a better job. Three, recognize states limits as stewards of education. Four, curb competition for business and five, fix t ...

Free sample - The Clash. translation missing

The Clash. The ClashIntroduction Aesthetics is a philosophy that was concerned with the nature of art work and criteria of artistic art work. A clash in art work refers to noise that is produced when doing art work or bad objects which result from aesthetic work. In art work creativity and symbolic aspect of an object is considered.   Clash between aesthetics and function The clash between aesthetics and function has become an issue in architecture beyond reasonable doubt. The work of art including ceramics, textiles and art furniture was an architect designed modernist for apartments in early 1960s and 1970s.This was marked as the time when people had experience on design work based on social, civic and cultural significance. But nowadays, architecture work has changed because building aesthetic achievement has been left out from its real function. The work of artist architecture at present depends on clients; target consumer needs and products at consumer prices but contain professional grade functionality (Shiner 2003). The constructions of modern architectures are important in art museum though they incur challenges when relating with aesthetic and function museum designs. Art museum is a challenge because it needs a lot of art work in every stage of production. The category of art museum represent type of structures either explicitly created to commemorate important events like churches and civic buildings. Art itself has an important function which people admire and tour especially places like museums which have exiting features. The clash between aesthetic and function has totally changed for a decade ago. At that time many contemporary artists produced long and thoughtful observation products that were meant for spiritual purposes. For instance temporary exhibitions and installations were less designed as neutral containers for permanent works than areas of interactive experience (Shiner 2003). Conclusion The art of historical past and present has caused a clash in aesthetic work. The contemporary issues involved opposed conceptions of what social workers of art and modern artists have done. Different views between past and present art workers were raised in consideration of aesthetic and function thus continuing causing trouble in studio crafts. Reference list Shiner, L. American History, Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

American History, - Essay Example Its vitriolic language and common approach differed from the existing political writings, which were often considered elitist, and gave Common Sense a wider mass appeal. After 25 editions, it sold thousands of copies and is credited for tipping the scale in the move towards independence (Henretta, Brody, and Dumenil, 181) Richard H. Lee, American patriot, had been a delegate from Virginia to the Continental Congress in September 1774. At this time he and Patrick Henry were joined by others to argue against the Coercive Acts, which had severely limited shipping in Boston in a response to the Boston Tea Party. In June 1776, with the pamphlet Common Sense reaching mass popularity, Richard Henry Lee introduced a congressional resolution calling for independence from England. Sensing impending defeat Loyalists and many moderates withdrew from the Congress. This was the beginning of the Patriots' formal declaration for independence and the move towards the war. Samuel Adams was a staunch Patriot who had gained the notoriety and experience during the Seven Years War that would later place him in a place of prominence. He led a revolt against the Townsend Acts in 1765, which taxed tea, paper, and other miscellaneous items. He was instrumental in establishing the Committee of Correspondence in Boston in 1772 (Henretta, Brody, and Demenil, 151). He became the leader of the radicals in Boston while organizing action against the monarchy (Nash et al., 179). In 1774, as a delegate from Massachusetts, he joined Richard Lee and Patrick Henry in their fight against the Coercive Acts in the Continental Congress. After the Revolutionary War, Adams helped draft the Massachusetts Constitution and the Articles of Confederation. He would later become the acting Governor of Massachusetts. John Peter Zenger John Peter Zenger was a printer and journalist that advocated and promoted the freedom of the press. Faced with corruption and tyranny in the colonies, a newspaper, the New-York Weekly Journal, was published by Zenger to expose the actions of Governor William Cosby of New York. Zenger was arrested for seditious libel and defended by a Philadelphia Lawyer hired by Zenger's supporters. Zenger claimed he was merely printing the facts and informing the public. Zenger was acquitted and the idea of the free press began to gain more popularity and would eventually rise to a significant part of American democracy. Bacon's Rebellion By 1675, the Chesapeake colonies were facing limited land and resources due to agreements with the Indian tribes. There was a need for more land as more settlers arrived in the New World. Nathaniel Bacon, joined by slaves and ex-slaves, brutally waged war against the native populations. Governor Berkeley who called for the arrest of Bacon denounced these attacks. This began a series of skirmishes and battles between Bacon's men and Berkeley's troops known as Bacon's Rebellion. It continued through 1677 involving 1000 British troops and resulted in the destruction of Jamestown (Nash et al., 84,86). Bacon's Rebellion was a sign of events to come as it pointed out the necessity of acquiring Indian land with the arrival of the new immigrants. The Great Awakening The Great Awakenin

Liberal Government 1906-1914 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Liberal Government 1906-1914 - Essay Example The Liberal Government came into existence in 1906 after a landslide victory over the conservatives. The Liberal government was led by Prime Minister, Henry Campbell Bannerman. The Liberal government passed various legislations once it came to power. All the legislations passed by the liberal government collectively came to be known as Liberal Reforms. The concept of 'new Liberalism' had begun to permeate through the party. The members unanimously began to promote appreciation of the interdependence and mutuality of modern society; collective action over individual action and sympathetic response to poverty. This report aims at enumerating the various liberal reforms that were outlined by the liberal government and its consequent impacts on people. The report in specific speaks about how the liberal government dealt with the problem of poverty. The liberal government went against the previously existing concept of Laissez Faire. The report also talks about how the new policies of the liberal government had an impact on the state of poverty. Solving the problem of poverty was a top priority objective of the liberal government. The report discusses the measures taken by the liberal government to tackle the problem. The conservative party that was in power before the liberals took over passed several legislations for social reforms. Particularly the 'Employment of Children' act in 1905 and Unemployed Workman's Act in 1903 aimed at alleviating the distress of the unemployed poor and destitute children (learningcuve.gov, 2005). However most of these reforms were carried out on the scale of local authorities and not by the Government as such. The liberal party too; before 1906, had assumed a Laissez Fare system of governance, according to which people are responsible for their own welfare. According to the Laissez Fare, prevalent conditions of poverty and illness were due to the ill practices of people themselves. The government never accepted responsibility for the prevalent hardships. The poor were seen by the wealthy as an unfortunate but inevitable part of society (Lednum, 2006). Although there were some prevalent acts and regulations; on the whole; the state did not do much to alleviate the lives of the poor class of people in UK. For instance, if the bread earner of a particular family died, the entire family would be plunged to doom. However, the state would not take any measures to rehabilitate the kin of the dead (Lednum, 2006). The main role of the then government was just to maintain the law and protect the country from foreign invasions. It was in the late 19th century and early 20th century that, several representatives of the state began to feel the importance of the state taking measures to deal with the problem of poverty. Several reasons can be enumerated for the upsurge of the notion of collective action to tackle the problem of poverty. Primarily the upper class and the MPs of UK feared that Britain would decline as a world power if the prevalent conditions persisted. They realized that if UK had to remain as a world power; they needed to obtain higher levels of
